Traffic Stop Leads to Short Pursuit that ends in the woods

Around 8 PM Friday, Jan 28th, a Coweta County Sheriff’s Deputy attempted to stop a black Chevy Tahoe on Welcome Rd. The vehicle took an immediate right onto Sheppard Drive and attempted to elude the deputy by going through yards and speeding down the road. The pursuit ended shortly after when the Tahoe left the roadway, jumped a hill, and came to a stop in the woods just short of a lake.

Multi Agency Manhunt last hours, comes up empty.

Shortly after the termination of the pursuit, deputies from the CCSO as well as Officers from the NPD arrived and set up a perimeter around the area. Dog teams were used to track the suspect through the area, eventually leading west near the Welcome to Arnco Road area.

A Fulton county unit that was nearby stopped and assisted with a thermal camera drone.

After nearly an hour and a half of searching in freezing weather, the decision was made to call of the search for the subject, the search was concluded at 9:35 PM according to radio traffic.

Suspicious Person call from paser-by leads to subjects arrest hours later

Around 11:15 PM a passer-by driving down Welcome Road reported to 911 there was a black male walking in the woodline on Welcome Road and provided a description matching that of the suspect wanted from the Lake Drive Pursuit.

Numerous Deputies from the CCSO headed to the location and were able to place the suspect in custody at 11:27 PM.

Chaz Elliot Cook Arrested

Chaz Elliot Cook was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Probation Violation
  • Fleeing / Attempting to Elude Police Officer
  • Reckless Driving
  • Speeding
  • Failure to Maintain Lane

Cook is currently in the Coweta County Jail awaiting his first court apperance.
