Shoeless Fayetteville Man Leads CCSO on Foot Chase Through School Grounds After DUI Stop

Concerned Citizen Calls 911

Monday, May 9th, 911 received a call from a customer at the Shell Gas Station located at 2235 E Hwy 34 that there was a black male in a white 90’s model Ford Ranger near the gas pumps that was passed out behind the steering wheel. The caller also stated that they were unsure if the person was breathing or conscious.

Deputies and EMS were dispatched to the scene, as they were responding, the caller updated 911 stating that the male had awoken and had left the Shell Gas Station, taking a right onto East Highway 34, heading toward Peachtree City.

While EMS units canceled their response, a CCSO unit that had been responding was able to make contact with the vehicle further east. That Deputy observed the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop near the intersection with Andrew Bailey Road. The vehicle finally came to a stop in the KFC parking lot.

K9 Unit Responds, Suspect Runs

During the traffic stop, the Deputy had dispatch check the serial number on a handgun, he then requested a K9 unit respond to the location of the traffic stop.

A few minutes after the request, a K9 unit arrives at the location of the traffic stop, within 2 minutes, units inform dispatch that the suspect has “bush bonded” or run on foot from them. They give a description of a black male, a black shirt and pants, and wearing no shoes.

The suspect runs across East Highway 34, behind the shopping complex at 3441 E Hwy 34, and into the woods. Units start to respond to the scene from around the county, as deputies on scene attempt to gather information. Units are able to locate a baggie of suspected drugs that has been ditched by the fleeing suspect.

The K9 unit deployed into the woods as other units started going further east to attempt to cut off the suspect, while Dispatch contacted Central Christian School to inform them of the situation.

Units responding to the school speak with witnesses who originally give them conflicting information about whether the suspect had entered the actual school building. Units were able to confirm quickly by speaking with witnesses that the suspect had attempted to enter the rear of the school, however, he was unable to do so and had run south toward the gym and re-entered the woods.

Units continue to track the suspect as others attempt to intersect him to the east. Units speak with kids playing baseball on a field located off Ebenezer Church Road, who state they saw the black male running down the road before entering the woods again south of the field, heading east.

Units that have deployed slightly further east, on Bradford Station Drive, are contacted by witnesses who state they saw the suspect running near the back of the road where it dead-ends into Bartlett Dr. Units respond to that area, while now 2 K9 units are tracking the suspect from the east of that location.

Finally at 5:28 PM, an hour after the initial 911 call, a CCSO officer makes contact with the suspect in the front yard of a residence off Blossom Court.
