\\ NPD Officer Involved Shooting - The Incident

According to a GBI press release from this morning:

Preliminary information indicates that at about 1:00 a.m., on October 3, 2026, a NPD officer saw a white car driving near the intersection of Dodson Street and Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive in Newnan. The officer followed the car until it came to a stop on Cliff Circle. The officer then approached the car and attempted to speak with the driver. Five men immediately exited the vehicle. One man walked from the car toward a home, and the other four men ran away. The officer ran after one of the men, later identified as Dorsey. During the foot pursuit, the officer gave verbal commands for Dorsey to stop, but Dorsey continued to run. The officer deployed his taser toward Dorsey, but the taser was ineffective. The officer then saw Dorsey pull a gun from his waistband area and the officer gave verbal commands for Dorsey to stop and drop the gun. The officer then shot Dorsey multiple times. Officers rendered medical aid to Dorsey until EMS arrived. Dorsey was taken to a area hospital and later died from his injuries.

1:13:09 AMNPD Officer informs dispatch that he has a suspect running behind Cliff Circle in the direction of East Gate. He includes the name of the suspect, Zadarious Dorsey.
Several units call out they are headed to the area.
1:13:19 AMNPD Officer updates they are running towards Winston Dowdell Academy (WDA).
1:13:28 AMNPD Officer updates they are currently on the train tracks.
1:13:53 AMNPD Officer reports shots fired.
1:14:05 AMNPD Officer again reports shots fired and ask that the radio channel be cleared for priority traffic.
1:14:25 AMNPD Officer requests EMS be sent to the scene as fast as possible.

EMS & Fire units were dispatched to the scene immediately with the first EMS unit arriving on scene within 6 minutes of dispatch. In the mean time officers were rendering aid to the suspect on scene, including started CPR.

After packaging the patient on scene, just before 1:40 AM EMS left the scene headed for Piedmont Newnan Hosptial. At that time the EMS unit advised dispatch to notify PNH that they were working a traumatic arrest ( CPR in progress ). EMS arrived at the hospital within 5 minutes of departing the scene.

At the request of the Newnan Police Department (NPD), GBI agents are investigating an officer involved shooting in Newnan, GA. Zadarious Dorsey, age 18, of Newnan, GA, was shot and killed during the incident. No officers were injured.

Dorsey’s body will be taken to the GBI Medical Examiner’s Office for autopsy. A gun was recovered at the scene. This investigation is active and ongoing.
