Original Letter Sent to Parents
August 28, 2026
Dear Bass Middle School Families,
I want to make you aware of a safety concern that was reported to our administration after dismissal today.
We received a report that a student sent a text message to another student stating that they were coming to school on Monday to "shoot the school up." We take any statement or threat involving the safety of our students and staff extremely seriously.
This evening, Bass Middle School administration, in coordination with the Coweta County Sheriff's Office, is actively investigating this situation. We have also taken the necessary precautions and appropriate actions to ensure the safety of our students and staff when they return to school on Monday.
Please know that the safety and security of our students and staff remain our highest priority. Any potential threat to our school community is investigated thoroughly, and we will continue working closely with law enforcement to address this situation.
We also ask for your help in reminding students of the importance of immediately reporting anything they see, hear, receive, or read that could present a safety concern. Students should never repost, forward, or spread threatening messages or rumors. Instead, they should immediately share the information with a trusted adult, school administrator, or law enforcement. If you see something, say something.
I also want to personally thank the students and parents who brought this concern to our attention. Their willingness to speak up allowed our administration and law enforcement to respond immediately and take the appropriate steps to investigate the situation. This is an important reminder that keeping our school safe is a shared responsibility. We will always take concerns seriously, and we encourage our students and families to continue to report anything that may impact the safety of our school community.
We understand that information such as this can understandably cause concern for our families. Please be assured that we would not have students or staff on campus if we believed there was a known threat to their safety. We will continue to remain vigilant and take every appropriate precaution to maintain a safe learning environment at Bass Middle School.
Thank you for your continued partnership and trust as we work together to keep our Bulldogs safe.
Sincerely,
Cindy Bennett

Update sent Sunday Evening
August 30, 2026
Dear Bass Middle School Families,
I want to provide you with an update regarding the safety concern that I shared with you Friday evening.
Bass Middle School administration has continued to work closely with the Coweta County Sheriff's Office as this matter is investigated. The student identified in connection with the reported threatening message will not be on campus Monday. While I cannot share specific information regarding an individual student or any actions that may be taken, I want our families to have this information as you prepare for your children to return to school.
We have taken this situation very seriously and have taken appropriate precautions to ensure a safe school environment. We will continue working with law enforcement and following our established safety procedures as necessary.
We look forward to welcoming our Bulldogs to school Monday morning and continuing with a safe and productive school day. Thank you for your trust, support, and partnership in keeping Bass Middle School safe.
