Fatal Cliff Circle shooting, what we know
Originally dispatched as a gun shot, the victim was pronunced dead on scene
Just before 11 PM, February 17th, E911 received a call stating that a male had been shot in the 20 block of Cliff Circle, off Martin Luther King Drive, in Newnan.
Medical units, as well as units with the Newnan Police Department were immediately dispatched to the location. CCSO deputies near the area started for the scene to assist.
Dispatch was able to get limited details from the caller, mainly that a male was in a vehicle with a gun shot wound. NPD units arrived on scene within minutes, noting that a group of 5 to 6 males ran from the location into the woods behind Cliff Circle as they approached.
The victim was located and units begin administering emergency medical aid as quickly as possible, including CPR. Shortly after medical units arrived, the victim was pronounced deceased and the coroner’s office was requested.
While units rendered aid, other units began to fan out around the area, attempting to locate the individuals seen running from the scene. A K9 unit was brought in to aid the search.
Officers seem to have focused on a residence off Dodson street, adjacent to the crime scene, where several individuals were detained and taken to the Newnan Police Department for questioning. Additionally individuals that were stopped attempting to leave the area were also brought in for questioning.
NPD investigators and crime scene techs, as well as units from the GBI remain at the crime scene investigating, while the vehicle the victim was found in has been taken back to the Newnan Police Department for further processing.
No details on the victim or circumstances have been released. We will be updating this article as more information is available.
6:27 AM – Radio traffic confirms, 2 warrants have been executed in the investigation thus far, 2 vehicles have been towed from the scene to the NPD lot and roughly 10 people, a mix of adults and juveniles, have been brought in for questioning.

Upon arrival police located a white male with a possible gunshot wound to the chest. Officers began providing medical treatment until EMS arrived. The male subject was later pronounced deceased. The Newnan Police Department CID Unit along with the GBI is investigating this incident. Further details will be provided as we continue to collect information during the investigation. On February 17, 2023 at 10:55 p.m. the Newnan Police Department was dispatched to the area of 22 Cliff Circle in reference to a person being shot. Upon arrival, police located a white male with a possible gunshot wound to the chest and officers began providing medical treatment until EMS arrived. The male subject was later pronounced deceased. Subject has been identified as Dustin Scott Parrott, 32, of Tyrone, GA.
