17 year old arrested with gun at Newnan Crossing Apartments
NPD units noticed a suspicious vehicle while patroling the complex
A Newnan Police Department officer patrolling the parking lot of Newnan Crossing Apartments located at 151 Parkway North in Newnan on February 8th around 12:45 AM came upon a suspicious vehicle in the parking lot.
Officers have increased patrols in the area apartment complexes as the City of Newnan sees a dramatic increase in entering autos, often occurring overnight.
As the NPD officer made contact with the 2 occupants of the vehicle, he requested another unit be dispatched to the scene. Upon the arrival of that officer a 3rd officer was requested as a firearm was found on one of the two occupants.
A Taurus 9 MM hand gun was found in the possession of 17 year old Amir Zykee Graves. In the state of Georgia the law requires you be 18 years of age in order to be in possession or control of a firearm.
Graves was arrested and booked into the Coweta County Jail on a single charge of Weapon – Firearm Possess by Person Under 18 YOA – First Offense, a misdemeanor. He was given an OR bond of $600, which his mother had to sign due to his age.
