This morning, February 9th, members of the Newnan High School Staff were made aware by students that another student was in possession of a knife. Staff immediately notified the Newnan Police Department School Resource Officers on scene, who located and detained him.

According to a statement by NPD Lt. Greg VanSant, given to the Newnan Times-Herald, the student had “bragged” about the knife being in his boot, but at no point presented the knife or made any threats.

The student, Landon James Dhaene, 17, of Newnan was disarmed and arrested. He was then taken to the Coweta County Jail where he was booked on the following singe charge:



– Weapon, Carrying within School Safety Zones, a Felony.



He remains at the Coweta County Jail without bond.
