Regal Georgian 14 Cinemas manager arrested for battery of female employee, tampering with evidence.
The unidentified employee called her father, who confronted the suspect at the theatre and called 911.
Shortly before 3 PM, Friday, March 31st, E911 received a call from a male stating that his daughter had been assaulted in the office by her boss at The Regal Georgian 13 Cinemas located in Ashley Park. E911 lost contact with the caller, but dispatched units to the location for a dispute.
E911 was able to get back in contact with the caller, the father of the victim, who stated he was with the suspect in the lobby of the business and that they needed to hurry before something bad happened. The first NPD unit arrived at the location 2 minutes later.
By this point, the suspect, who was the manager of the theatre had also contacted E911 and according to radio traffic, informed dispatch that he was in the janitor’s closet.
According to a source with knowledge of the incident, the suspect was found by NPD officers attempting to delete Security Video using his phone.
The identity of the victim is being withheld due to the nature of the crimes and the age of the victim.
The suspect, Wasantha Gamalathge, 60, of Peachtree City, was arrested and booked into the Coweta County Jail shortly after.
Originally booked on a charge of Sexual Assault Against Person in Custody, that charge has been modified to Battery. Gamalathge was also charged with Tampering with Evidence. Both of these charges ( including the initial charge ) are misdemeanors.
Gamalathge was released on April 1st after posting a $2000 bond.
