Just before 2 AM, Coweta County E911 received a call from an individual traveling down Al Roberts road that had come upon the scene of a single vehicle accident.
The caller told dispatch that there was a Nissan Pathfinder on it’s roof, blocking the road and that there were power lines down across the road as well. He also stated that there was someone in the vehicle and they looked entrapped.
Dispatch immediately dispatched units with the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office as well as Coweta County Fire Rescue to the scene, which was identified as the 1100 block of Al Roberts Road, near it’s intersections with Roberts Pond Rd in the southwest portion of the county. GSP was also contacted and dispatched to the scene.
The first CCSO unit arrived on the scene within 3 minutes of being dispatched, with the first CCFR unit arriving minutes later. The deputy informed dispatch that the vehicle had taken out a power pole and there were lines down across the road. EMS requested dispatch contact Air-life and dispatch further units to set up a landing zone while they worked to extricate the patient from the vehicle.
While CCFR units did all they could for the victim, he sadly passed away at the accident scene.
The scene was turned over to GSP for investigation and the Coweta County Corner. Power crews also continue to work to restore power.
The identity of the victim has not been released and there’s currently no information on contributing factors. We will update with more information when it’s available.
The accident took out power lines that disrupted power to nearly 150 people in the area. At the time of posting this article just over 100 Coweta Fayette EMC customers remain without power in the area.
